The Gift of Giving: Museum Membership

Happy holidays! The 2020 holiday season is much different than any other holiday season we've seen before. The COVID-19 global pandemic has impacted our lives in many ways forcing us to embrace a new normal. Mask wearing, practicing social distancing, limited time at bars, restaurants, gyms, and hair salons, drive-by testing, homeschooling, a rise in unemployment, and less time spent with family, friends, and loved ones have all become a part of life for many of us. We must all be supportive of one another and offer help when needed. It is also important to explore new ways to enjoy our communities, maintain positive mental health, and manage the ways we deal with this unprecedented moment in history. Museums are the perfect place to engage with incredible works of art, learn about new artists, and escape everyday stress, even if you have to do it virtually.

Virtual museum visits are apart of our new normal and offer visitors access to museums across the globe. From the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, museums have developed fun and exciting ways visitors and members can enjoy the benefits of viewing their collections and exhibitions. Many museums are practicing great safety measures and offering virtual programming like virtual tours, Zoom artists talks, special free events on their social media platforms, opening their outdoor sculpture gardens, and many other creative ways to connect with the public. Yes, we may not be able to physically walk through the doors, explore galleries and gather with fellow museum-goers however, we can continue to support creative spaces and gain a little relief from our lives with COVID-19.

Let's unite in the fight by staying safe while we support museums through the gift of membership. Subscribe and leave your email address in the comment box and each week during the holiday season GalleryGirl1908 will pick a name for a free membership to a U.S. museum. Together, we can support creative spaces that bring joy and comfort to many during this difficult time. Have a happy and safe holiday season!
